Definitely one of my top 5 favourite books from King.
Revisiting the Overlook as I prepare to read Dr Sleep was like revisiting an old Uncle I don't like. I know him, I know he's family, but goddammit he is creepy as hell and I really wish he wouldn't hug me because he smells funny.
That's the thing I could only hope to achieve in my own writing, King brings about such amazing description that you can taste everything, hear every sound and smell the air around the characters. When the oranges hit dick I could literally taste the citrus fruit on my tongue and when blood spilled it left that metallic taste in the back of my throat.
As an author myself, I could only hope to invoke such feeling in my own work.
